Digital Prop Painting: Bungie Style
For this project, I digitally painted three props in the visual style of Bungie Studios. This was my first experience with digital painting, and it gave me the opportunity to study Bungie’s realistic rendering style, material textures, and lighting. It was a fun challenge that helped me explore a new medium and practice translating game-style realism into my own illustration work.
Prop 1: Gun
The first prop I rendered was a rusted, weathered gun, designed to look like it had been exposed to a humid, forested climate. I began with ten thumbnail sketches, narrowed them down to two flats with base color, and then fully rendered the final design with accurate perspective, lighting, and environmental wear.
Prop 2: Portal
The second prop I created was a portal designed for the main character to travel between worlds in this Bungie-style narrative. I began with ten thumbnail sketches, narrowed them down to two flat-color concepts, and then fully rendered the final portal with attention to perspective, lighting, and shadow.
Prop 3: Wrist Armor
The final prop is a wrist shield worn by the protagonist in battle. I started with ten thumbnail sketches, narrowed them down to two flat-color concepts, and then fully rendered the final design with realistic perspective, lighting, and shadow.
